Overall I do support the use of this website as an additional teaching material in the classroom for learning to read.At Starfall, children have fun while they learn. A pirate ship is at the end of the boardwalk. A cloud pops up with the number one in it. I think a pitfall might be that there is no way to set a child up exactly at his or her level, so if the teacher is not directly monitoring each child they could possibly just go to the section where the computer reads the story and skip the whole learning process altogether. On a bright sunny day, Zac the Rat is walking down a boardwalk carrying a knapsack. I personally like that it starts with the ABC’s, then Learn to Read, then It’s Fun to Read all the way to I’m Reading. The site for teachers also unlocks hundreds of activities on the computer as well as includes lesson plans and customizable worksheets. The children can work on the site and then take what they have learned to work through their appropriate level books.
